Mlarkyvision

Lately I have been helping out with the television and film production studio, Studio 13. My friend Eugene from Collective Hardware is in-house right now finishing up editing Mlarky, a web series being shown on atom.com and Comedy Central soon. I have been playing assistant but have seen the show develop from raw footage into polished episodes and that has been very cool. There are four episodes up on atom.com right now and they are doing really well. Take a look!

1982

"...I do not have dreams of saving the world. However, I am in the world and I am a human being. In 1982, with telephones and radio, computers and airplanes, world news and video tape, satellites and automobiles, human beings are still frighteningly similar to human beings 2,000 years ago. I am scared to death.

I think I was born an artist. I think I have a responsibility to live up to that. I've spent my life up to this point trying to find out just what that responsibility is. I learned from studying other artists' lives and studying the world. Now I live in New York City, which I believe to be the center of the world. My contribution to the world is my ability to draw. I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can. Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic."

-keith haring, excerpt from Journals

I read that on the train today and thought how close to my own situation that hits. Also, one of the books Haring mentions reading in his journals was the one I was reading previously. The Politics of Experience by R.D. Laing. Almost thirty years have passed since he wrote that down and the same themes recur. It's helpful to read about people having similar struggles.

random work

These are a few images i could find on my computer fast. I am trying to keep producing. Saturday I worked with Collective to do a video installation for a collaborative party at one of Warhols old spaces on Bond street. My next project is editing a series of viral short clips to drum up interest in the movie we are filming with director Dan Fogler. I am working 5-6 days a week at the Standard Grill (rough) and wondering why I dont have a social life.

I got some new batteries in my digital camera so I will have more to show soon. This is a photo of my bedroom wall right now, with all the resident paintings. More to come.

Rains On My Day Off

I finally scheduled an eye exam so I can wear contacts again. Right now I have a trial pair in and after seven months of glasses only, it is a little strange. I was walking around today with an umbrella feeling better about brooklyn. It looks like a slow mending process has started and that is a really great thing. Having money for groceries and replacing worn-out clothing feels weird after scrapping like a street urchin for so long.

Ronnie Cutrone, a famous painter from Warhols Factory, saw the above painting I did and told me he really liked how stupid it was. He told me stupid is a good thing. Ill take the compliment.

Four Months Ago I had a Blog

Sorry. I just got a job at the Standard Hotel, working in the restaurant. I work in the mornings bussing away the dishes of the rich and famous. At night I work at the artist collective Collective Hardware. We just had an exhibition opening for the manager of Radiohead, Brian Ormond. Currently I am assisting in editing a feature film as well as doing general event production and design for event promotion mostly. I have been painting lately but not enough. I eat any free food that is anywhere near me. The coffee shop I worked at in Hoboken closed down in January. I lost the phone I hated so for now I am only contactable via internet. I still live with Willy and he is still a rockstar menswear designer at J Crew.

Above is a drawing I did of a girl I work with and it is pretty accurate. I finished reading Catch 22, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and right now am halfway through Black Boy by Richard Wright (the autobiography of my favorite author.)

I have no idea what happened.

I have no idea what happened but I am now part of a magazine that is part of a collective that is the up and coming art circle in new york city and that is exploding and growing exponentially. Today we moved into our new office on the fifth floor of Collective Hardware, a collection of painters, film-makers, actors and tresses, and all around exciting people. The founder of facebook Sean Parker ( a man worth 4 billion dollars) strolls in wearing a violet crushed velvet suit jacket and sash and hangs out for an hour. One of the members of the collective is dating Lizzy Jagger, Sean Lennon hangs out there, on Sunday his brother is filming in the building, tomorrow we are screening and hosting some filming of the work of actor and director Dan Fogler. Eventually I will start doing video for the site (scallywagandvagabond.com) as well as art directing, designing, and helping out with some of the writing. Things are shaping up in a very crazy way.
